Late actors Garcia, Mabesa to posthumously receive this award from NCCA
The late Eddie Garcia and Tony Mabesa--two legends of Philippine cinema--will be among the artists who will be bestowed with this year's "Ani ng Dangal" award, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) announced.

The Ani ng Dangal (Harvest of Honors) is given to Filipino artists who had earned international awards and accolades in the previous year.
Actors Garcia and Mabesa both passed away in 2019, before the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic shackled the local movie and television industry. This means that they will receive the award posthumously.
The awarding ceremony is deemed as the highlight and concluding rite of National Arts Month.
The NCCA said 63 artists in the fields of architecture, cinema, dance, dramatic arts, literary arts, music, visual arts, folk arts, and broadcast arts will be honored in this year's Ani ng Dangal awards. The complete list of recipients under the different categories is as follows:

Recipients will be awarded with the Ani ng Dangal trophy, which is shaped like a "sarimanok"--a mythical bird of the Maranaos. It was sculpted by National Artist for Visual Arts Abdulmari Asia Imao.

The national artist transformed the sarimanok into a mono-winged creature with the National Arts Month rice stalk logo incorporated in the rampant wing’s feathers.
The creature is portrayed soaring above a globe that symbolizes the height of artistic achievement on the global stage, the NCCA explained.
The Ani ng Dangal 2021 will be streamed this July 2021 on the NCCA Facebook page.
