WHO praises BTS for use of sign language in 'Permission to Dance' music video

The World Health Organization (WHO) expressed its appreciation to South Korean pop band BTS for incorporating sign language to their new single “Permission to Dance.”

In his official Twitter account, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised the K-pop group’s third English-language track.

"Thank you, @BTS_twt, for including sign language in your #PermissiontoDance music video," Ghebreyesus tweeted.

“As 1.5 billion people in the world are affected by hearing loss; sign language can help them to continue enjoying music which can bring joy to life,” he added.

The BTS released the music video for their new song Permission to Dance last Friday, July 9. This song is included in the group’s CD album called “Butter.”

The group included in their choreography international sign language that means "fun," "dance," and "peace."

This latest track of BTS was co-written by British song-writer Ed Sheeran and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, among others.

“Wrote this song a while ago and so happy it’s being heard on such a world stage and being sung by such talented people,” Sheeran tweeted.

As of writing, the music video has already reached 121 million views and 11 million likes on You Tube.
