Pacquiao accused of 'character assassination' against Duterte

Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP)-Laban vice chairman and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi on Tuesday, July 13 said Senator Manny Pacquiao may possibly be expelled from the ruling political party after his “character assassination” of President Duterte, who is the party’s chairman.

Cusi said the possibility of Pacquaio being expelled during the scheduled party meeting on July 17 is in the offing because he accused Duterte of committing wrongdoings that he cannot even prove.

“It’s like character assassination. What if I accuse him and then suddenly I just leave and go to my province and sleep?” Cusi explained in an interview on ANC Headstart.

Pacquiao, acting president of the party, through a virtual presser made several corruption claims against several government agencies before he flew to the United States to train for his boxing match in August.

Last week, the senator and his allies in the party kicked out Cusi, along with two other party officials belonging to his faction for alleged disloyalty and for violating the party’s constitution and bylaws.

However, Duterte has chosen to acknowledge the leadership of Cusi and refused to recognize the resolution expelling him from the party.

Cusi said it is regrettable that Pacquiao has thrown accusations against them and should be responsible with his actions.

“He should prove it. We are ready. You cannot just accuse the President and saying where’s the P10-billion. You prove it, if you cannot prove it, you better shut up,” the Cabinet official said, referring to the boxing icon’s allegation that P10.4-billion worth of the Social Amelioration Package or “ayuda” did not reach intended beneficiaries.

“Parang kami sa DOE, we’ve been accused of corruption in DOE. Kami nga naghahabol sa mga oligarchs na ayaw sumunod sa gobyerno. Kami na nga ang hinaharass (We’re the one’s going after oligarchs that refuse to follow the government. We’re the ones being harassed),” he added.

“Hindi naman clear na basta na lang siya maga-accuse, aalis siya. Harapin niya kami (It’s not even clear, but he just accuse and then leave. He should face us),” Cusi further said.
