The renovated Plaza Moriones in Tondo, Manila was inaugurated Monday, July 12.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan led the inauguration ceremony of the iconic linear park.
About 5,000 Capiz lights and 55 lamp posts were installed in the park as part of its redevelopment.
In his speech, Domagoso said he wants the people of Tondo, particularly the children, to have a safe, clean, and bright space they can visit.
“Sa mga nanay, mga tatay, alam ko wala na kayong pera, puro na lang kayo window shopping...at least ngayon, di niyo na kailangan magpunta kung saan saan, may sarili na kayong pasyalan, maayos, ligtas, maaliwalas (To all mothers and fathers, I know that you don’t have money anymore, you’re just window shopping...at least now, you no longer need to go anywhere else, you have your own park that is orderly, safe, and bright),” Domagoso said.
“Mga bata, may laruan na kayo, wag kayo mag swi-swimming (To the kids, you now have a playground, but don’t swim here,” the mayor added.
Domagoso also asked the people of Tondo to take care of the park.
“Alagaan ninyo ito. Hindi araw araw pasko. Sa mga barangay chairmen, nakikisuyo ako sa inyo, tapat niyo, linis niyo (Take care of this, it’s not Christmas every day. To our barangay chairman, please, clean what’s in front of you),” the mayor said.
He also urged Tondo residents not to turn the place into a garbage area, a chicken farm, or a dumping ground for sidecars.
The redevelopment of Plaza Moriones is part of the city government’s agenda to create more green spaces in the city.
Plaza Moriones measures 864.82 meters from Juan Luna Street to Mel Lopez Boulevard and 304.92 meters from Sta. Maria Street to Juan Luna Street.
