Man who refused to pay hotel bill nabbed after being chased by cops from QC to Manila

A 46-year-old man who checked-in at a hotel in Quezon City and refused to pay his bill was arrested by the police on Tuesday after a long chase by the authorities from Quezon City to Manila.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said the suspect, identified as Arvin Tan, is now facing charges for estafa, resistance and disobedience to a person in authority, and multiple damage to property.

The complaints were filed by the branch manager of a hotel on Timog Ave. in Barangay South Triangle and the police.

This came after Tan reportedly checked-in at the hotel around 11 p.m. on Monday, July 12. When he was about to check out at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, police said Tan "failed to pay his bill and instead demanded for cash amounting to P20,000" from the staff of the hotel.

Hotel personnel sought assistance from the Kamuning Police Station. But during their confrontation, Tan, who was on board his BMW car, tried to flee and hit the police car and motorcycle.

"During the conduct of hot pursuit operation, the suspect bumped several private vehicles, LTO (Land Transportation Office) mobile cars, motorcycle, and other vehicles," the police report read.

"Upon reaching Recto near corner Nicanor Reyes Ave., Manila, the suspect was corned and was placed under arrest," it added.

The suspect sustained injuries and his BMW was damaged during the chase.
