Jackie Chan wants to join the Chinese communist party, netizens react

Jackie Chan has expressed willingness to join the Communist Party of China (CPC), reportedly the first big star to do so.

At a recent forum in Beijing, as attended by several Chinese film luminaries, Chan, who is also vice chairman of the China Film Association, said, "I can see the greatness of the CPC, and it will deliver what it says and what it promises in less than 100 years...”

He added, "I want to become a CPC member."

Fan reaction was mixed.

Some thought Chan “brave” for voicing his support of CPC given its seeming unpopularity.

There are others who believe that, very much like several other actors and musicians, Chan simply “capitulated” to pressure from Beijing.

Note that other stars who have joined the 2019 protests against Beijing for its supposedly increasing and overt meddling in Hong Kong's affairs, were allegedly banned in the Chinese mainland.

Meanwhile, there are some who suggested Chan should learn how to take care of his estranged daughter with Hong Kong actress Elaine Ng first, before dipping his hand in politics.
