Inday Sara 'more PDP' than Pacquiao—Cusi

Partido ng Demokrating Pilipino (PDP)-Laban vice chairman and Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi on Tuesday, July 13 said there is a possibility that the ruling political party will support Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio’s president bid in the May 2022 national elections if she decides to run for the top government post.

“It is possible, but it has to go through a process, in accordance to the bylaws of the Constitution and bylaws of the party. So pwede po yun (so that’s possible),” Cusi said in an interview on ANC Headstart.

“Kung si Mayor Inday Sara po, sabi ko nga po, she was more PDP, more than (Senator) Manny Pacquiao,” Cusi further said.

Pacquiao, who has an ongoing rift with Cusi and President Duterte, is the party president. According to Cusi, Duterte-Carpio has already ran under the PDP-Laban in one of her mayoral candidacies.

The Davao City mayor had also used the Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) of the PDP-Laban.

“She has used the CONA of the PDP, Manny Pacquiao has not used the CONA of PDP...She ran for PDP when she ran for mayor,” he said.

Cusi also pointed out three generations of the Dutertes have been with the PDP-Laban during their political careers—President Duterte’s mother, the President himself, and “Mayor Inday Sara.”

“They are all PDP until they formed the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP),” he said of the political party the Davao City mayor currently chairs.

But according to Cusi, the PDP-Laban members are more concerned about convincing the President to run for vice president in the upcoming May 2022 elections.

“Yun po ang reso (resolution). So that is the degree of importance to the PDP-Laban...for Duterte to run as vice president,” the Cabinet official said.
