DepEd enjoins learners to participate in 5th 'DokyuBata' video documentary contest

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday, July 13, urged learners to participate in the upcoming 5th "DokyuBata" Video Documentary Contest starting in July this year.

“We want our learners to become more discerning in studying and interpreting media materials in television and social media, especially now that they are more exposed to these platforms,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said.

“With this initiative, we can instill values, knowledge, and creativity to our learners so they can be better media advocates,” she added.

The “DokyuBata” video documentary contest aims to exhibit the prowess of the young Filipino documentarist in creating television materials. This will be conducted by the National Council for Children's Television (NCCT).

The NCCT is an attached agency of DepEd. The “DokyuBata” was created in 2017 to provide an avenue for aspiring young television documentarists to showcase their skills and expose them to quality and child-friendly documentaries.

DepEd said that this year’s “DokyuBata” will be done virtually in response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and will introduce five significant activities to develop the prior talents of the participants.

The “DokyuBata Masterclass” will train aspiring filmmakers in crafting documentaries. It will be open to learners and teachers interested in the program.

The “DokyuBata Rewind” will feature selected documentaries from the year 2017-2020 to make the participants aware of the impact of the competition, from the production team to the subject of the program and the community.

The “DokyuBata Classroom” will be conducted for the Top 10 finalists of the competition. It will serve as a workshop and talkback session to guide them in revising their documentary and promoting it.

The “DokyuBata Virtual Screening” will be a three-day online screening of the enhanced documentaries by the finalists, followed by the “DokyuBata” Awarding Ceremony announcing the winners of the competition. Both activities will be held virtually in NCCT’s online channels and pages.

DepEd said that to cater to more participants, the competition will be divided into three categories: Children Division for ages 12 to 17 years old; Young Adult Division for ages 18 to 23 years old; and the Adult Division will be open to individuals 24 years old and above.

Meanwhile, the NCCT reminded aspiring participants to submit their entries from Aug. 2 until Oct. 4, 2021 through their email: [email protected].

NCCT also reminded that “DokyuBata” 2021 is free and will not require fees from its participants.
