COVID-19 hits member of K-pop boy band Treasure

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) continues to disrupt the entertainment industry in South Korea.

On July 13, YG Entertainment announced that Doyoung, 17, part of the 12-member K-pop boy band Treasure, has tested positive for COVID-19, the latest Korean celebrity to get the virus.

“We would like to inform you that Treasure member Doyoung was confirmed to have COVID-19 today (July 13),” the agency said in a statement.

It added that “except for Doyoung, all other members and staff of Treasure tested negative. There are no additional confirmed cases but Treasure members and staff plan to maintain self-quarantine.”

The agency said Doyoung was first confirmed to be positive for COVID-19 using a self-testing kit, which was done before the commercial shooting on July 12.

As a result, all members of Treasure and staff immediately stopped their schedules and underwent PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests through which Doyoung was finally confirmed to be positive.

“We have taken intensive preemptive measures beyond the guidelines of quarantine authorities by promptly and accurately sharing the relevant information with the authorities,” said YG Entertainment.

Korean singer Seo In-young, former member of girl group Jewelry, was also confirmed to be positive for COVID-19 on July 13.

Other Korean celebrities who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past two weeks include child actress Lee Go-eun, actress Cha Ji-yeon, K-pop girl group Lovelyz member Seo Ji soo, K-pop boy band Noir member Kim Min-hyuk, K-pop boy band ATEEZ memer San and K-pop boy band Infinite’s Kim Sung-gyu.
