San Juan City surpasses target population to achieve herd immunity

The San Juan City local government announced on Monday that it has successfully inoculated more than 100 percent of its target population against COVID-19 after vaccinating more than 96,000 residents with at least the first dose of the vaccine.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, together with the San Juan local government and national government officials, were at the Greenhills Shopping Center to mark the milestone. Among them were Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, COVID-19 testing czar Vince Dizon, and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez.

Zamora said that as of July 11, the city has already administered 96,610 first doses to its residents, which is equivalent to 112.18 percent of its target population to achieve herd immunity, while 29,313 residents received their second dose.

Secretary Dizon and Secretary Duque lauded the LGU for its fast and efficient vaccination program.

"Sabi nga po ni Secretary Duque, ang San Juan po ang kauna-unahang LGU sa Pilipinas na umabot ng at least one dose sa kanyang 70 percent target population. As of today, 96,610 na po ang nabakunahan ng at least one dose ng LGU ng San Juan (As what Secretary Duque had said, San Juan is the very first LGU in the Philippines which completed vaccinating with at least one dose its 70 percent target population. As of today, 96,610 people have been vaccinated with at least one dose by the San Juan LGU) ," Dizon said.

Zamora said that if the city will continue to receive vaccines from the national government, San Juan will be able to achieve herd immunity by the end of August this year.

As of July 11, the city recorded 79 active COVID-19 cases, 9,088 recoveries, and 227 deaths.

The CHO added that barangays Isabelita, Pasadena, St. Joseph and Sta. Lucia remain COVID-19 free.
