Philippine Navy-Standard Insurance riders dominated the PhilCycling National Trials on Sunday after Ronald Oranza and Kate Jasmin Velasco ruled the men’s and women’s road race at the Clark Freeport Zone.
Oranza led Navy’s gold-silver-bronze sweep in the men’s division after clocking 3 hours, 18 minutes and 25.80 seconds in the 147.6-kilometer race.
Teammates George Oconer (3:18:32.15) and Ronald Lomotos (3:18:35.23) came in second and third.
“We did our best to protect each other throughout the race,” said Oranza, a 28-year-old pride of Villasis, Pangasinan.
“I’m praying that these (races) will mark the return of cycling events in the country.”
In the distaff side, Velasco bagged her second gold medal with a time of 2:15:17.62 in the 80.70-km course.
Velasco was coming off a victory in the individual time trial Saturday.
Avegail Rombaon crossed the line 1.76 seconds after Velasco to settle for silver while Mathilda Krogg finished third in 2:15.19.75.
