Pacquiao congratulates Poirier, sends well wishes to McGregor

Manny Pacquiao has once again tuned in to the UFC fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor.

In the trilogy, Pacquiao finds himself again congratulating Poirier after scoring a technical knockout win (doctor stoppage) against McGregor in their lightweight bout in UFC 264 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Nevada on Saturday, July 10 (Sunday, July 11, Manila time).

"Congrats to @DustinPoirier on winning the trilogy. Tough injury for @TheNotoriousMMA but he’ll be back. #UFC264," Pacquiao wrote on his official Twitter account.

The bout turned out to be disappointing for McGregor's end after suffering a leg injury (lower tibia). He will undergo surgery on Sunday.

While their second meeting was a bit peaceful, the third one was full of bad blood with most of the trash talking coming from the Irish mixed martial arts star.

ESPN's Mike Coppinger reported that Poirier is set for a title shot against UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira in December.

UFC chief Dana White said that the bout is "100 percent next."

White, however, added that there could be another rematch between Poirier and McGregor once the latter is healed from his injury.

Meanwhile, before Pacquiao has settled for Errol Spence Jr in a "real" fight, there were previous talks where the Filipino boxing legend was supposed to take on McGregor in a boxing match.

But that didn't materialize after McGregor lost to Poirier in their second meeting, which paved the way for McGregor to focus on the Octagon instead and the eventual trilogy.

In January, Manny Pacquiao Promotions president Sean Gibbons also said "the demand for the fight is not there presently" after McGregor lost to Poirier via second-round knockout.

Besides, Pacquiao, the only eight-division world boxing champion, is busy training under the tutelage of coach Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles, California.
