PH Red Cross continues to help families affected by Taal Volcano's unrest

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to provide assistance to families affected by the ongoing Taal Volcano unrest.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, July 10, the PRC said it has already provided aid to 120,530 families or a total of 446,233 individuals as of July 9.

“As long as the threat of eruption is still there, the Philippine Red Cross will always stay true with its ethos of being Always First, Always Ready, and Always There,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Richard J. Gordon.

The PRC reported that it has so far set up 10 first aid stations and 13 welfare desks in different evacuation sites, ready to render assistance to the evacuees.

The humanitarian organization said it has also distributed “beneficiary cards” to 120 affected families, provided hot meals to 7,201 individuals, and emergency first aid to 223 people.

Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 due to “magmatic unrest,” according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Following Taal’s unrest, authorities have evacuated residents from high-risk areas, particularly from some villages of Agoncillo and Laurel towns in Batangas.

State volcanologists continue to detect volcanic earthquakes associated with Taal’s magmatic degassing in the past 24-hour monitoring period.
