Gov't achievements, recovery plan highlighted ahead of SONA
The government will embark on an information campaign to highlight its recent achievements as well as the economic recovery program ahead of President Duterte's State of the Nation Address (SONA) later this month.

Cabinet members are expected to hold four pre-SONA forums presenting achievements on the economy, infrastructure development, poverty alleviation, and other social protection programs starting next week. These pre-SONA events set will carry the theme "Pamana ng Pagbabago 2021."
"The Pre-SONA Forums (are) where we will formally inform the Filipino people and encourage their support and participation in these activities as a prequel to the sixth and final State of the Nation Address of our beloved President Rodrigo Roa Duterte," Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said during a recent online press briefing.
The first pre-SONA forum, organized by the Cabinet's human development and poverty reduction cluster, will be held in Bohol on July 14. The second forum will be led by the Cabinet cluster on participatory governance cluster in Cebu City on July 16.
The Cabinet cluster on security justice and peace will handle the third pre-SONA forum in Manila on July 21 while the cluster on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction will lead the fourth assembly in Manila on July 22.

Nograles said the pre-SONA events aim "to give the executive departments and agencies under the Cabinet Cluster System an avenue to inform the Filipino public and all stakeholders on the priority programs and projects of government."
He said they also intend to assist the President in reporting to the people the accomplishments of his administration in the past five years as well as the scale up plans for the remainder of his term.

The upcoming pre-SONA forums also seek "to afford the general public the opportunity to interact directly with the executive branch and provide feedback on government programs and projects," according to Nograles.
"These forums will also feature a report on our collective fight against COVID-19 pandemic as well as our recovery strategies to help our nation heal from the impacts of this crisis," he said.
The President is set to deliver his sixth and final SONA before the two houses of Congress on July 26. Duterte is expected to go the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City for the traditional event but authorities will heighten safety and health protocols for the limited guests as a precaution against the coronavirus outbreak.
