Comelec urges deactivated voters to apply for reactivation for May 2022 polls

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has urged deactivated voters to reactivate their voting status for them to be able to participate in the general elections in May 2022.
In her official Twitter account, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said that more than half a million deactivated voters have applied for reactivation so far.
“Only 600,000 of the 7.3 million voters deactivated for failure to vote twice have registered again,” said Guanzon.
The Comelec official expressed hopes that more deactivated voters will reactivate their status.
“Please encourage them to register this month. Avoid the rush,” she said.
Based on Voter's Registration Act of 1996, a registration may be deactivated if a person "did not vote in the two successive preceding regular elections as shown by their voting records."
"If your voter registration status is deactivated, do not register as a new voter. Instead, you may apply for reactivation so you can once again exercise your right to vote," the Comelec said.
