Police trainee pronounced dead, 4 others collapse in 'graduation run'
TACLOBAN CITY – A police trainee was declared dead, while four more were hospitalized after they collapsed during their supposed "21K Graduation Run" Wednesday, June 30, in Tacloban City.
The fatality was identified as PT Kit Adrian Balais, while the other police trainees were identified as PT Alro Melvin Ardivilla, PT Japhet Sulibaga, PT Neil John Barcellano, and PT Mark Joseph Petagara.
Initial report disclosed that five of the police trainees under Class 2020-04 Alpha-Foxtrot at the PNP Regional Training Center based here collapsed and subsequently became unconscious during the graduation run.
The school nurse, after conducting medical assessment, immediately brought the trainees to the PNP Regional Health Service for medical treatment, but were later transferred to the Leyte Provincial Hospital (LPH) in Palo, Leyte.
PT Balais passed out while being treated at the hospital.
He was pronounced dead by his attending physician at around 1:30 p.m. The other four police trainees are still being treated at the hospital.
The PNP-RTC 8 is yet to disclose the cause of death of PT Balais.
