Phivolcs recommends evacuation in some Batangas areas amid Taal Volcano's 'magmatic intrusion'
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recommended the evacuation in some areas in Batangas after Taal Volcano has been placed under Alert Level 3 on Thursday, July 1.

Phivolcs director Undersecretary Renato Solidum Jr. said the volcano generated a "short-lived" one kilometer-high phreatomagmatic plume at 3:16 p.m. that led the agency to raise the volcano’s alert status.
The following areas were identified by the agency for evacuation:
- Barangays Gulod, Boso-boso, and Lakeshore Bugaan East in Laurel, Batangas
- Barangays Banyaga and Bilibinwang in Agoncillo, Batangas
- Taal Volcano Island
- Taal Lake
Phivolcs explained that phreatomagmatic eruption occurs when new magma interacts with water.
“In view of the above, DOST-PHIVOLCS is now raising the alert status of Taal from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3,” Phivolcs said in its volcano bulletin.
“This means that there is magmatic intrusion at the Main Crater that may further drive succeeding eruptions,” it added.
The agency said communities around the Taal Lake shore are advised to take precautionary measures and be vigilant of possible lakewater disturbances related to the ongoing unrest.
