Duterte: Pacquiao a 'goner' if he fails in his boxing career
President Duterte alleged that world-renowned boxer Senator Manny Pacquiao backed out of a boxing match because he knew he would be a "goner" if he loses.

Duterte made the statement as the showdown between the two officials of the ruling party PDP-Laban continued months before the start of the election season.
In a speech in Antipolo City, the President said Pacquiao made the move because he knew there was no future for him should he lose.
"You know he has a scheduled fight but suddenly nag-back-out (he backed out)-- probably he knows that he’s too old for that," he said.
"And failing in his boxing career, kung matalo siya (if he would lose), he’s a goner actually. Kailangan manalo siya, kung matalo siya (He has to win, or else)..." he added.
The President continued to taunt the fighting senator, saying he had many inconsistencies.
"Bakit ka umatras ka doon sa boxing? Kasi alam mo kung matalo ka, you are a goner, wala ka talaga (Why did you back out of that boxing match? Because you know you're a goner if you lose). Those are your inconsistencies in your career," Duterte said.
There is no record of Pacquiao recently backing out of a boxing match. However, there were reports that he was facing a multi-million dollar breach of contract lawsuit filed by Paradigm Sports Management because he was supposed to fight American boxer Mikey Garcia instead of Errol Spence.
Pacquiao is set to fight Spence on August 21, 2021, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Duterte's beef with Pacquiao started after the latter alleged that the current administration was three times more corrupt than the previous one.
In response to his claims, the President threatened Pacquiao that he would expose him as a liar and campaign against him in the 2022 elections if he would fail to substantiate his allegations.
Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque thought Pacquiao attacking President Duterte was a bad move.
