UP, UST drop in world rankings

The University of the Philippines (UP) and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) both dropped in the 2022 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings.

UP fell to the 399th spot, three places lower than its 2021 ranking, while UST slid down to the 1,0001-1,200 bracket -- lower than its 801-1,000 ranking in 2021.

Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University remained at 601-650 and 801-1,000 brackets, respectively.

QS Research Director Ben Sowter said while the four Filipino universities perform poorly in the research indicator and in the internalization indicators, they improved their standing with the employers who took part in the QS global survey and in the Academic Reputation indicator.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States bested 1,300 universities worldwide in the annual ranking.

Harvard University (5th) fell out of the top three and was replaced by the University of Oxford (2nd), and the University of Cambridge and Stanford University (both ranked 3rd).
