Returning June Mar Fajardo still groping for form

June Mar Fajardo admitted that it will take some time before he gets his timing back after missing all of last season due to an injured shin.

“Sa totoo lang, hanggang sa ngayon mentally medyo naiilang pa ako,” the San Miguel Beermen said during a recent episode of the 2OT podcast.

The six-time PBA Most Valuable Player has been a regular participant since SMB practices began at the Aquamarine Recreational Center in Lipa City, Batangas.

Fajardo failed to see action for the Beermen in last season’s PBA Philippine Cup bubble after suffering the injury during practice in Feb. 2020.

The Lipa practice sessions are an opportunity for Fajardo to get himself back on track while waiting for the PBA to finally start its season.

“May mga moves (ako) na parang nagdadalawang isip ako, nag-aalangan ako,” said Fajardo. “Pero yun nga, gusto kong i-test yung injury ko kung ano yung kaya.

“So far naman nagpaplyo(metrics) na kami, tumatalon na ako at wala nang masakit. Sana tuloy-tuloy na and marami kaming ginagawa na footworks ng PT namin para makuha ko ulit yung kumpyansa ko.

“So far maganda naman yung movements ko so sana tuloy tuloy. May one month pa naman ako para mag prepare,” added Fajardo.

The presence of Fajardo alone should boost SMB’s bid to regain the title in the PBA’s most prestigious championship after its five-year reign ended with a quarterfinal loss to Meralco.

SMB’s title hopes were boosted by the acquisition of CJ Perez from Terrafirma in late-January.

“Basta kami nagwowork kami,” said Fajardo. “Yung goal namin syempre lahat naman ng teams goal mag-champion e. Yun yung goal namin. Basta kami ibigay namin yung best namin pagdating sa game then antayin natin yung result.”
