New stars Alexa Miro and Rob Gomez surprised at how millennial relationships are different from other generations

Newbies Alexa Miro and Rob Gomez hinted at steamy scenes in their debut movie "A Girl and A Guy" as they noted that many people can relate to their film.


"I feel like we wanted to tell the movie in real life. That's how close the movie is to reality. They will understand once the movie is shown," said Alexa when asked about the all-out hot scenes in the movie, during a Zoom conference with the entertainment press recently.

On the other hand, Rob said: "Direk Erik Matti was careful naman in explaining to us what he wanted us to show. Wala naman po kaming ginawa na out of the ordinary talaga."


Matti also shared on social media his experience in shooting the movie. "I film stories of mostly what I know. A Girl + A Guy is the first film I made where I had to go into a story I know nothing about. No amount of research I made could fully dissect what makes this young generation tick.

"It’s a different kind of high directing without the safety net of truly understanding the subject. How these young adults traverse the exciting, fun and messy lives they are in balancing love, work and life is the subject of this movie.

"Making this film is more a process of discovery understanding them for just a little scene after scene, empathizing with them for just a bit of shot per shot and ultimately, without any form of judgment, experience how their lives could be bittersweet, daunting, passionate, romantic, confusing, ultra super fun and full of energy and emotion all at the same time. Excited to share this refreshing take on the lives of our young," said Matti.

Alexa and Rob also opened up about their thoughts on millennial relationships.

"I've learned a lot about love. It's so easy to connect and disconnect these days. I wish we could go back to the days kung saan pinaghihirapan talaga ang relationship. Di ba nga nuon sumusulat pa tayo and ilang days bago makarating sa kanila?  But I am thankful for the lessons learned in relationships," Alexa said.

Rob commented: "These days, the mentality of people is different. What they call a relationship is not really a relationship." 

The stars also shared the ultimate lessons learned in love.  

"If you are in a relationship, you will really learn something. But I think the ultimate lesson that you keep learning is to love yourself," said Alexa.

"One thing I realized lately is that the show must go on. We shouldn't let our lives stopped despite the heartbreaks. For sure, you will encounter more heartbreaks, but the show must go on," Rob added.

Asked to describe how passionate they are in love, Alexa said: "I don't know if it's the right thing, but I will love you as much as I can and love you and understand you. But I discovered that sometimes love isn't enough. Tutoo pala 'yun cliché as it may sound. May mga makikila kang tao na akala mo mababait at hindi ka lolokohin 'yun pala hindi siya for you. The show must go, you have to move forward and find your way."

"If ever I fall in love, I fall hard. It's just you and me. I will give you my world to you. I will share you my memories, the past and lots of emotional stuff," Rob said.

The film also stars Alexa Mira and Rob Gomez, with Pau Benitez, Candice Ramos, Rosh Barman, Sarah Holmes, Carlo Tarobal, Emilio Francisco, Chloe Reyes, Roeder Camanag, Donna Cariaga, and Marina Benipayo.

"A Girl and A Guy" will premiere on upstream.ph on June 24.
