Media broadcasting emerge as a top source of vacancies in upcoming DOLE job fair

Media broadcasting has emerged as a top local industry as far as job vacancies are concerned.

This was bared by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Assistant Secretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay as she announced on Wednesday, June 9 the conduct of an online job and business fair this coming Independence Day, June 12.

Tutay, the concurrent director of the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), sounded surprised as she enumerated the top five industries that are looking for workers based on those that have registered for the weekend job fair.

"BPO pa rin; manufacturing; security services; and mind you, media broadcast; and then retail (BPO is still the top industry; followed by manufacturing; security services; and mind you, media broadcast; and then retail)," she told DOLE Information and Publication Service (IPS) Director Rolly Francia.

"Parang kakaiba po itong media broadcast kasi ngayon ko lang na- (Media broadcast sounds unique, it's only now that I've encountered it)," an amused Tutay said.

Specifically, employers from the media broadcasting industry are looking for "caption writers or live note takers," she bared.

She said the top five local vacancies in the upcoming job fair are for 1. customer service representative; 2. production operator, factory worker; 3. security guards; 4. caption writer, live note taker, and 5. cashier, sales representative.

Although Tutay didn't give figures for the specific vacancies, she revealed that over 40,000 jobs from at least 380 different employers will be up for grabs during the June 12 event.

Out the figure, some 19,000 jobs from 38 employers are based overseas.

Tutay said it's possible that some of the vacancies in the upcoming job fair were unfilled positions from the previous DOLE job fair that was carried out last May 1 on the occasion of Labor Day.

The top local vacancies during the previous job fair were for 1. customer service representative; 2. production operator, factory worker; 3. police officer, contact tracer; 4. seamstress; and 5. mason, carpenter, re-barman.
