Rains due to 'habagat', ITCZ to prevail across most of PH -- PAGASA

Isolated to scattered rain showers will continue to affect several parts of the country due to the prevalence of the southwest monsoon or "habagat" and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, June 8.

In the next 24 hours, Zambales, Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, and Occidental Mindoro will have cloudy skies with scattered habagat rain showers and thunderstorms.

Moreover, PAGASA continues to monitor a low pressure area that is embedded inside the ITCZ or at 285 kilometers east-southeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar early Tuesday morning.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ will prevail over Biliran, Leyte, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas.

The combined effects of the ITCZ and southwest monsoon may also bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country.

PAGASA advised the public to remain alert against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

It has not issued a gale warning across the country's coasts on Tuesday.

Fisherfolk and seafarers are safe to sail but were still advised to observe caution during severe thunderstorms that are most often accompanied by strong winds, which could trigger big waves.
