Duterte asks LGUs: Find those who have not received 2nd vaccine dose yet

President Duterte sought the help of the local government units (LGUs) to find and convince the people who have not received the second coronavirus (COVID-19) shot yet to get fully vaccinated.

Duterte made the statement after the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 reported that roughly 113,000 individuals have missed their second vaccine shots due to medical and personal reasons.

In his pre-recorded public address on Monday, Duterte ordered the LGUs to take steps to help the national government address the situation.

"I want the authorities and the LGUs to find out why this is happening and to take steps to return to their... ma-imbyerna sila na madala ng mga barangay captain pati mayors (convince them through the barangay captain and the mayors)," he said.

"Kindly help us ferret out the persons who have not received the second booster until now," he added.

President Duterte admitted that he has always had a hard time urging the public to do something.

"Nahihirapan talaga ako mag-convince sa mga Pilipino lalo na yung matigas ang ulo (I'm really having a hard time convincing Filipinos especially those who are hardheaded)," he said.

"Kindly follow instructions. Hindi naman mahirap 'yan, eh (It's not difficult, anyway)," he added.

President Duterte reminded the public that their protection against COVID-19 was not complete if they do not take their second vaccine shot.

"Kayong iisa lang, kulang 'yan. Pakilinya lang uli (Those who have received their first shot, that's not complete. Please line up again) for the second those because is not complete without the booster," he said.

"You find time at your convenience, na bumalik doon, pumila, at magpabakuna ng tinatawag nilang second booster (to go back to the vaccination site, line up, and receive what they call the second booster)," he added.

However, the President said that getting the two doses of vaccine will not be enough if the people will ignore health protocols.

"It (vaccine) will give you a measure of protection, but it does not guarantee that you will not get COVID again," Duterte said.

"In spite of your vaccines, and boosters, please observe the basic protocol-- mask, hugas ng kamay (wash your hands), social distancing," he added.

The Philippines has rolled out its vaccination program against COVID-19. So far, all vaccine brands that the country has in its inventory require a second dose.

As of June 6, the country has administered 5,965,651 doses of COVID-19 vaccines while 1,544,332 individuals have been fully vaccinated.
