Kiefer on his Japan stint: Only time will tell

Kiefer Ravena said “only time will tell” if his plan to take his talents to Japan will eventually come into fruition.

These were some of the words he made a day before the PBA Board of Governors ruled with finality that Ravena must honor his current contract with the NLEX Road Warriors instead of pushing through with playing for B.League club Shiga Lakestars.

Ravena’s remarks came Friday, June 4 when he joined younger brother Thirdy and girlfriend Alyssa Valdez in an interview with Boy Abunda on his YouTube channel.

The 27-year-old cager became the center of discussion in the local basketball scene after the Lakestars announced that they have signed Ravena as their Asian import for the 2021-22 season.

But PBA commissioner Willie Marcial had told Ravena that he can’t go through with the Japan stint due to his current contract with the Road Warriors which ends in 2023.

The PBA Board eventually came down with the decision Saturday, June 5 over fears that it may cause a negative precedent for the league.

Ravena offered not to comment on the decision, opting to spend the hours after the PBA announcement by focusing on his NBA trading card hobby.

While doing a box break, a term used to open packs of cards, on his hobby-related Facebook page known as “Cards for Kiefs,” a viewer repeatedly asked Ravena if his B.League stint will no longer continue.

Ravena could only respond to the viewer by saying: “Good vibes lang tayo dito.”

He is also expected to continue his commitments with NLEX amid the issue, as witnessed in videos provided by the PBA of Ravena taking part in recent practices in Pampanga.
