The country recorded 6,955 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), pushing the nationwide tally to 1,262,273, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Saturday, June 5.

The active cases stood at 59,543. Of these, 93.5 percent were mild cases, 2.4 percent were asymptomatic, 1.3 percent were in critical condition,1.7 percent were severe cases, while 1.16 percent were moderate cases.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire warned the public not to be complacent as COVID-19 cases are still increasing, particularly in Mindanao and some parts of Visayas.

“So kung mapapansin natin for these past days tayo ay naga-average uli ng mas mataas kesa sa previous two weeks natin. The previous two weeks natin for the rest of the country yung buong bansa nag-aaverage nalang tayo ng 5,200 plus but this week, we saw na tumaas po sa 6,691 ang ating seven-day moving average dito sa buong bansa (So if we notice for these past days we are averaging higher cases than in the previous two weeks. During the previous two weeks for the rest of the country, we only averaged 5,200 plus cases but this week, we saw our seven-day moving average increased to 6,691 nationwide),” she said.

“Aside from Mindanao, we are also seeing a rise in cases in some parts of the Visayas and in some parts of Northern Luzon,” she added.

Among the factors contributing to the spike in cases include: increased mobility and complacency in adhering to the minimum public health standards.

Vergeire urged the different local government units (LGUs) to further boost their PDITR strategies---the prevention, detection, isolation, treatment, and reintegration of COVID-19 cases.

The DOH, meanwhile, also reported that 8,109 more patients have recovered, bringing the recoveries to 1,180,998. However, 195 more deaths were confirmed, taking the death toll to 21,732.
