Gonzales, partner yield in Arkansas ATP Challenger

Southeast Asian Games medalist Ruben Gonzales and American Martin Redlicki yielded to an Indian-Greek alternate pair on Friday, June 4, in the opening round of the Little Rock Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Challenger in Arkansas.

Gonzales and Redlicki bowed to India’s Saskumar Mukund and Greece’s Michail Pervolarakis, 6-2, 7-6 (3), in the hard court tournament.

A win for Gonzales and Redlicki could have arranged them a quarterfinals date with Americans Sekou Bangoura and Donald Young, who survived Mexico’s Hans Hach Verdugo and Chinese Taipei’s Jason Jung, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 10-4.

“Didn’t get the W this week at the Little Rock ATP Challenger but was awesome battling with my man @martinredlicki!! Time to get better and on to the next one! Vamosss!” Gonzales wrote in his Facebook page.

This was Gonzales’s fifth doubles event this year. His best finish so far was a semifinal at the Cleveland Challenger in Ohio last March with Colombian partner Nicolas Barrientos.
