'Dante' no longer affecting PH; Signal No. 1 in Batanes lifted

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has lifted the tropical cyclone wind signal number 1 in Batanes as tropical depression "Dante" (international name "Choi-wan") no longer directly affects the country on Saturday morning, June 5.

As of 4 a.m., tropical depression Dante was estimated at 330 km north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes or over the sea south of Yonaguni Island, Japan.

Based on its forecast track, Dante will continue to move northeastward and may pass over or near the vicinity of Yaeyama Islands, Ryukyu archipelago, before leaving the Philippine area of responsibility between Saturday morning and early afternoon, PAGASA said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

Dante has maintained its maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

"This tropical depression is forecast to transition into an extratropical cyclone within the next 24 hours as it interacts with the baroclinic zone of Mei-yu Front over the East China Sea," PAGASA said.

However, Dante may still trigger moderate to rough seas over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon.

PAGASA advised mariners of small seacraft to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea, while it asked inexperienced mariners to avoid navigating in these conditions.
