COVID-19 vaccine cards digitization proposed to prevent fraud
As the country's vaccination drive continues, Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion has proposed certain safeguards to prevent fraud in vaccine cards in the country.

According to Concepcion, the government should issue uniform and digital vaccine cards to facilitate safe and seamless movement of people who have been fully vaccinated.
The vaccine pass, backed by Concepcion and other business leaders, serves as proof the holder has been inoculated against the coronavirus disease. Local government units have been issuing cards to their constituents who received their coronavirus shots but the business groups have pressed for a standard format for implementation nationwide.
"Itong mga bakuna card dito sa LGU okay naman ito pero eventually kailangan maging digital ito at isang look ‘no para kung gamitin natin dito sa mga domestic at foreign travels ay madaling ma-verify kung fake or not ‘no. Pero iyong transition niyan importante The vaccine cards issued by the LGUs are okay but eventually these cards must be in digital form with a uniform look so when we use for domestic and foreign travels, it will be easily verified if they are fake or not. The transition is important)," Concepcion said over government television Saturday, June 5.
He said the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is expected to oversee the digital shift of the vaccine cards issued in the country.
"Sana dapat imadali natin ito kasi ang pinu-push ng private sector ay iyong mga kumuha ng bakuna ang dapat mabigyan nang greater mobility (We hope we can hasten this because the private sector is pushing for greater mobility for vaccine recipients)," he said.
Concepcion renewed his pitch for the digital vaccine cards as the government is getting ready for vaccination of the country's essential workers this month.
A ceremonial vaccine rollout for the economic frontliners is scheduled this coming Monday, June 7, at the SM Mall of Asia.
“With the vaccination program now reaching our economic frontliners and others in essential sectors, we can expect more economic activity to happen and this will hopefully mean the return of jobs lost and the confidence in our economic growth prospects,” Concepcion said.
With the intensified vaccination effort, Concepcion said the goal is to achieve herd immunity in NCR Plus 8.
"The target to vaccinate 70 percent of the population is ideal, but even if we are able to accomplish just 50 percent, which is what America has achieved so far, then we can really see the results in the business activity and consumer confidence,” he said.
