Alabang fire leaves 30 families homeless

A fire hit a residential area in Alabang, Muntinlupa early morning Saturday, leaving 30 families homeless.

According to the Muntinlupa City Fire Station, the fire broke out at 3:32 a.m. at 254 Mendoza Compound on Montillano Street in Alabang, which is beside a shopping mall.

It reached the second alarm before it was put under control at 4:34 a.m. and put out at 5:33 a.m.

The fire destroyed six two-story residential structures and four commercial stalls owned by Seferino and Rosaoro Mendoza.

No one was injured in the fire, which damaged P500,000 worth of properties.

According to authorities, the fire originated from a Meralco service line but the cause is still being investigated.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi visited the area and assured the residents of assistance from the Muntinlupa City government, which initially provided meals and supplies to the affected residents.

The affected families are temporarily staying at Alabang Elementary School, according to the Public Information Office.
