'Unveiled' presents National Artist Federico Alcuaz's selected works

Celebrate the legacy of the Filipino painter with his best masterpieces

As an artist, Federico Alcuaz, had lived a colorful life. A proof that is his Order of Genius given to him by the French Government. Another, while embroiled in controversy, is his Order of National Artist of the Philippines in 2011.

What led him to such achievements, of course, is his unique flair for the arts. Throughout his career, the eccentric Federico is known for his Cubist-inspired works, noted for its soft blurred edges.

His tapestries, abstract works, cycloramic landscapes of Manila, nudes, still life’s, his famous "Tres Marias," and portraits of the important people of Philippine Society made such an indelible impression to the art lovers of the previous generations. But to many younger art connoisseurs of today, he is an enigma.

To celebrate the artist's 89th birthday, the Art Lounge Manila and the Alcuaz family jointly present "Federico Alcuaz Unveiled: Select Works from the Alcuaz Family Collection." The exhibition sheds light on the mystery that is Alcuaz, and allows younger audiences to bask in the light of his genius. The exhibit also kicks off the relaunch of the art space at The Podium.

Co-presented with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the exhibition closes on June 6, 2021 with an afternoon with Christian Aguilar, who is set to give a talk about his father, and hold an authentication session at the gallery.

"With works representing almost all the decades of his artistic career, the exhibition presents different aspects of his practice as well allow the public to see samples of the many artistic mediums Alcuaz was adept in," Art Lounge Manila ends.
