Signal No. 1 raised over Batanes as 'Dante' returns to PAR

Tropical cyclone "Dante" (international name "Choi-wan") has reentered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as a tropical depression at 4 p.m., Friday, June 4.
It initially left the PAR at 2 a.m., Friday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Dante was at 210 kilometers (km) west-northwest of Basco, Batanes or 185 km west of Itbayat, Batanes, as of 4 p.m.
Tropical cyclone wind signal No. 1 has been raised over Batanes as it may experience strong winds during the passage of Dante.
From a tropical storm, PAGASA said Dante has weakened into a tropical depression with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It is moving northeast at 20 kph.
A gale warning remains in effect over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon due to rough seas.
PAGASA warned that sea travel remains risky for small seacraft, while it advised mariners without the proper experience to immediately seek safe harbor.

In its latest forecast track, Dante will likely have a close approach or landfall over southern Taiwan Friday evening.
Afterward, Dante will continue to move northeastward towards the East China Sea and will be outside the PAR by Saturday afternoon, June 5.
PAGASA said Dante will likely transition into an extratropical cyclone by Saturday while over the East China Sea.
Dante has made landfall eight times. These were in Sulat, Eastern Samar on Tuesday, June 1; then in Cataingan, Masbate; Balud, Masbate; Romblon, Romblon; San Agustin, Romblon; Pola, Oriental Mindoro; Tingloy, Maricaban Island, Batangas; and Calatagan, Batangas on Wednesday, June 2.
