Netflix announces release date of Jun Ji-hyun's 'Kingdom: Ashin of the North'

Popular OTT platform Netflix has announced the date of release of Korean actress Jun Ji-hyun’s “Kingdom: Ashin of the North,” a special episode of the “Kingdom” series.
It said “Kingdom: Ashin of the North” will be released on July 23 and the episode will reveal the origins of the resurrection plant that triggered the avalanche of tragic events that swept through Joseon and a woman abandoned by all - Ashin.
A scene from “Kingdom: Ashin of the North” was released on YouTube on June 4 showing Ashin holding a torch and entering a cave. She discovers markings on a rock and the resurrection plant. “To revive the dead, a price must be paid,” according to the footage.
“Kingdom: Ashin of the North “ is helmed by Kim Seong-hun, who directed the first season of “Kingdom.” Writer Kim Eun-hee, who wrote “Kingdown,” returned for the special episode.
Kim Sia, who appeared in “The House of Us” and “Miss Baek,” will portray Ashin as a child while Park Byung-eun reprises his role as Min Chi-rok, the head of the Royal Commandery Division who helped Crown Prince Lee Chang in stopping the infected from infiltrating the royal palace.
The announcement came as Jun Ji-hyun and her husband, businessman Choi Jun-hyuk, have been swept up in rumors of separation and divorce. She denied the rumors and vowed to take legal action.
Netflix has 208 million paid subscribers in over 190 countries.
