DOH: Filipinos' concern about getting infected with COVID-19 an opportunity to boost vaccination efforts

The survey result showing that majority of adult Filipinos are still worried about catching COVID-19 is an opportunity for the government to further encourage the public to get vaccinated against the viral illness, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

Based on the recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, 89 percent of Filipino adults are afraid that they will contract COVID-19.

“We would like to shift this into a positive light kung saan itong mga tao, unang-una base sa SWS survey still has that perception of risk and because they perceive na ang COVID-19 is still a risk, we can take that opportunity para mas i-encourage silang magpabakuna (We would like to shift this into a positive light wherein the people, mainly based on the SWS survey, still perceive that COVID-19 is still a risk---we can take that as an opportunity to encourage them to get vaccinated),” said DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Friday, June 4.

Vaccines coupled with practicing the minimum public health standards can help in preventing the transmission of COVID-19, said Vergeire.

“Kami po ay humihikayat sa ating publiko na tayo ay magpabakuna na kung eligible tayo at patuloy po natin ipatupad ang minimum health protocols (We are urge the public to get vaccinated if you are eligible and continue to follow the minimum health protocols),” she said.

The total number of administered COVID-19 vaccines nationwide stood at 5,180,721, wherein 1,206,371 individuals have already completed the two-dose regimen, while 3,974,350 people received their first dose, based on the data of National Task Force against COVID-19 on May 31.
