Coast Guard rescues 6 Aklan fishermen amid TS 'Dante' onslaught
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued six fishermen in a suspenseful operation after they were left stranded aboard three distressed fishing bancas amid the onslaught of tropical storm (TS) “Dante” in Nabas, Aklan on Thursday, June 3.
In an incident report, the PCG identified the rescued fishermen as Ruzel Valeriano, Jojen Borris, Jay Ablen, and Allan Parojinog, residents of Brgy. Alimbo Baybay in Nabas; and Froilan Estoya and his wife, Iza Bautista, of Brgy. Buenasuerte in same town.

The PCG said the fishermen sailed despite the rough sea condition until their boats encountered engine trouble around 3 a.m. Wednesday. The fishermen were left fighting for their life amid the bad weather as they sent a distress call for rescue.
The PCG said personnel of the Coast Guard Station Aklan picked up the distress call so they immediately deployed search and rescue (SAR) teams.
The rescue teams together with the personnel of Special Operation Unit-Aklan located the fishermen floating off Sibuyan Sea in Tablas Strait in the vicinity waters bordering Brgy. Alimbo Baybay and Brgy. Buenasuerte between 8:15 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. on the same day.

The PCG commended its brave SAR teams who rescued the fishermen amid the unfavorable weather condition.
The rescued individuals were declared in good physical condition while their motorbancas were towed to the nearest shoreline.
