All systems go for Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge's Independence Day opening--Villar
The Independence Day opening of the new Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge, which links business and industrial hubs in the cities of Pasig, Makati, and Taguig is all set, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar announced Friday, June 4.

“As promised, Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City leading to Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City will be connected to Pasig City/Mandaluyong City by the Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge on the historic day our nation commemorates the 123rd Independence Day," Villar said.
Starting June 12, motorists can finally access the bridge across Pasig River that also acts as a major component of the BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project.
Using the bridge, the cities of Pasig and Mandaluyong can be reached in just 12 minutes from BGC, Villar said.
The finishing touches on the four-lane, 440-meter (m) bridge are now being laid down to ensure that it is compliant with safety standards before it is opened to the motoring public.
Aside from the construction of the bridge, the P1.79-billion BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project also involves the rehabilitation and widening of the 476.58-m stretch from Brixton (corner Reliance Street) to Fairlane Street and the 232.34-meter BGC 8th Avenue; construction of the 125-m upward and downward ramps at Kalayaan Avenue Intersection; and construction of Lawton Avenue – Global City Viaduct.
According to Villar, contractors have committed to complete the viaduct structure traversing Lawton Avenue up to the entrance of BGC by the last quarter of 2021.
The BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project, which intends to decongest EDSA, is one of the big ticket projects under the Duterte administration's Build, Build, Build program.
It was designed to relieve around 20 percent of the traffic volume on EDSA and C5 Road.
