Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other leaders acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the Filipinos made to the country in celebration of the Filipino Heritage Month.

"This month, we celebrate the many contributions that many Filipino Canadians made and continue to make to our community," Trudeau said in a message from Filipino Canadian National Congress.
"For all of us, the month of June is an opportunity to learn about your rich history to embrace your vibrant culture, because every day, you make our country a better place to live," he said.
Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, and Member of Parliament (Waterloo) Bardish Chagger said the hard work and resilience of the Filipino communities in their country are noticed and appreciated.
"Today marks the beginning of Filipino Heritage Month, an opportunity to highlight the invaluable contributions that Canadians of Filipino descent have made to the social, economic, and cultural fabric of Canada," Chagger said in a statement.
"This month and beyond, let us recognize communities of Filipino descent and celebrate the important role they have played and continue to play in creating an open, diverse, and consciously more inclusive society," she added.
Jagmeet Singh, MP, Leader of Canada's New Democratic Party, also cited the contributions of the Filipino community in health care, service, as well as in entrepreneurship.
Philippine Ambassador to Canada Rodolfo Robles, meanwhile, encouraged Filipinos to continue enriching the culture and traditions in the country.
Canada is home to more than 800,000 people of Filipino descent, one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada.
The Toronto City Council voted unanimously to designate June as Filipino Heritage Month in November, 2017.
