Pasay Mayor Emi cites success in bringing down COVID cases

Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano attributed the local government’s success in bringing down the number of COVID-19 cases to its intensified prevention and detection initiatives.

Rubiano said that after the implementation of total and granular lockdowns in COVID-hit barangays, the city government stepped up its prevention and detection drive through active contact tracing, RT-PCR mass testing, isolation and treatment.

Rubiano recalled that on March 2, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed the first South African variant in the city. At that time, the city had 521 active COVID-19 cases.

She said that not long after, the city had 1,024 by March 25 and the number continued to increase.

This prompted the mayor to place two barangays under total lockdown while 136 barangays and areas under localized community lockdown.

She had asked the police to strictly implement the health protocols, particularly the EMI habit (Ensure to always wash your hands, Mask and face shield is a must, and Implement social distancing).

The mayor added that after succeeding in bringing down the number of infected individuals to 59 on May 31, the city continued its campaign, the reason why it has the lowest number of cases at present.
