PAGASA monitors LPA inside PAR as 'Dante' traverses WPS
As tropical storm “Dante” further moves away from the country’s landmass, a low pressure area (LPA) has entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday, June 3.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was spotted at about 850 kilometers (km) east of Virac, Catanduanes at around 8 a.m.
“Wala pa itong gaanong epekto o direktang epekto sa ano mang bahagi ng ating bansa (It has no effect yet or direct impact on any part of the country,” said Chris Perez, PAGASA’s senior weather specialist.
However, Perez noted that the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon and the Visayas will likely experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
During its morning weather update, the state weather bureau said the LPA entered the country’s area of responsibility at around 2 a.m.
“Based on PAGASA’s assessment, the chances of it becoming a tropical cyclone remain low as it crosses the west northwest direction of the Philippine Sea,” weather specialist Benison Estareja said.
All wind signals lifted
Also on Thursday, PAGASA has lifted all tropical cyclone wind signals as Dante further moves away from mainland Luzon while moving northwestward over the West Philippine Sea.
The center of the tropical cyclone was located at about 205 km west northwest of Dagupan City, Pangasinan or 190 km west southwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur at around 10 a.m.
It maintained its maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph while moving northwestward at 35 kph.
Perez said the storm’s outer ring bands may bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the western section of Northern and Central Luzon.
Dante is seen to continue moving generally north northwestward or northward over the West Philippine Sea in the next 12 hours.
Afterwards, it will likely change direction heading north northeastward on Friday morning, June 4, and northeastward by Friday afternoon or evening.
“Dante is forecast to remain tropical storm in the next 12 hours. It will weaken into a tropical depression (Friday) and into a remnant low on Saturday, June 5,” PAGASA said.
