OVP volunteers write letters thanking Robredo for COVID-19 response

Volunteers of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) expressed their gratitude for the “big inspiration” and “hope and faith” that programs like the Bayanihan E-Konsulta (BEK), a free online medical teleconsultation, brought them.

Vice President Leni Robredo shared on her personal Facebook account some of the food and stuff she received as gifts from her office’s volunteers.

One of the volunteers, Aileen Almazan, who was an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Singapore for eight years before she was retrenched because of the pandemic, sent a box full of customized face masks. One of the masks was designed with the BEK logo.

Robredo noted that they should have been the ones giving gifts to their volunteers instead of the other way around.

“She sent me these beautiful masks today as a way of thanking us for giving her the opportunity to serve when I should be the one thanking her. Napakabuti talaga ng mga Pilipino. Sa oras ng matinding kagipitan, ang naiisip pa, kung papaano sila makakatulong sa iba, (The Filipinos are really kind-hearted. At a time of great need, they think of how to help others),” she said with a heart emoji at the end.

An accompanying letter showed Almazan introducing herself to the vice president.

It added: “This program is the answer to my question “How can I help?” I am frustrated with the current situation like most kababayans. It is heartening to be a part of BEK... with all enthusiastic volunteers, PRO and FOR the Philippines.”

This was not the only gift and letter that Robredo received in the past week.

Earlier, she shared that two of their non-medical volunteers in the BEK’s chat support group sent a box of “yummy cream puffs.”

“Thank you for allowing us to experience helping others on a bigger scale. You are such a big inspiration and with B.E.K., the biggest thing given was not only the medical intervention, but hope and faith. These things your office selflessly gives us, and in time, the ripples of kindness will be unstoppable,” a certain Mon and Zen said in the letter that came with the cream puffs that Robredo posted.

“Until the next project, we remain,” the letter added.

The BEK is one of Robredo’s most successful projects to date, having served over 43,000 people since it launched in early April. Together with volunteer doctors, the program provides medical advice to COVID-19 and non-COVID patients who cannot consult with doctors in a hospital setting.

The program aims to decongest hospitals, clinics, and other care facilities.
