Treatment czar: No local cases of Delta variant in PH so far
Department of Health Undersecretary and treatment czar Leopoldo Vega on Tuesday, June 29, said no local cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Delta variant have been detected in the country so far.

Vega said all 17 cases of Delta variant reported in the country were foreign travelers.
"We must really focus on border control because as of now, 17 Delta have been identified through a sequencing and no Delta variant has been detected at the local level," the treatment czar said in Filipino during a Palace briefing.
"We hope we can sustain this because we know this variant is contagious and can also give us an increase in hospitalization rate, so the only way here is prevention and vaccination," he added.
The Delta variant (B.1.617.2) first identified in India is around 60 percent more transmissible than the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7) first emerged in the United Kingdom.
DOH earlier said that patients infected with the Delta variant are more prone to stay longer in hospitals than those who contracted other variants.
