A mother of a teen beauty queen has appealed to Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to look into the activities of a group of people who allegedly lure innocent girls into prostitution.
The appeal was made by Mrs. Celia Domingo, mother of Ashley Gomez (screen name), who hails from Tondo, Manila. "Sana matulungan kami ni Mayor Isko sa problema na ito."
Mrs. Domingo claimed that her daughter Ashley was contacted by a pimp through Facebook, offering the minor a sum of money purportedly for a modelling stint.
Ashley, 15, told her mom that she was initially offered P75,000.00. When she refused it, the pimp reportedly doubled the amount to P150,000.00.
Mrs. Domingo said that she and her daughter also sought the help of a local councilor to track down the suspects in the illegal activities.
"It's alarming that our children are not safe from cyberspace anymore. I hope that authorities will look into these unlawful operations," the mother said. "The vast confines of cyberspace have created a way to reach unwittingly young girls and entrap them to be part of trafficking."
Mrs. Domingo also reminded parents to watch over their children so that they would not fall into the hands of people engaged in wrongful acts.
