Mayor Abby: Vaccinee in viral video wants no severe punishment for volunteer nurse

The vaccine recipient in the viral video had asked the local government unit (LGU) of Makati City not to give the volunteer nurse severe punishment for not being able to administer the COVID-19 vaccine, Mayor Abigail "Abby" Binay said on Tuesday (June 29).

The mayor said that the nurse and the vaccine recipient in the viral botched vaccination video have already talked and the nurse had apologized to her.

"'Yung pasyente pa nga po mismo ang nakiusap na huwag pong patawan nang mabigat na parusa 'yung nurse. Kumbaga, naawa rin po 'yung pasyente (Actually, the patient had asked us not to severely punish the nurse. The patient also felt sorry for her)," Binay said during a radio interview.

"Kahapon nga po kinausap siya nung aking health officer, iyak nang iyak nga raw po 'yung nurse kasi hindi ho niya akalain na, kumbaga, lalaki nang ganito kalaki 'yung nangyari (Yesterday, my health officer talked to her and the nurse was crying because she didn't think that it would blow up like this)."

Binay said she feels sorry for the volunteer nurse who was just waiting for her deployment overseas.

"Sana hindi naman ganoon kabigat ang penalty sa kanya ng Department of Health. Ako naman, sa akin, lahat naman tayo napapagod at nagkakamali. Hindi naman fatal, I agree may pagkakamali siya, sana maging commensurate 'yung penalty (I hope the Department of Health's penalty on her is not that severe. For me, we all get tired and make mistakes. It's not fatal. I agree she made a mistake. I hope the penalty will be commensurate)," the mayor said.

Although the volunteer nurse just started her duty at the vaccination site, Binay said that she underwent training.

According to Binay, the incident recorded on video happened on June 25, and was immediately corrected the next day June 26 when the individual in the video went to them and showed the video.

On June 29, the mayor appealed for the understanding of the public, saying that what happened was unintentional, and assured that it will never happen again.
