DPWH-built flood control structure shields agricultural lands near Lamut River

The agricultural lands surrounding Lamut River in Ifugao--dubbed the country's cleanest river--is now protected by a P26.8-million flood control structure.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Tuesday, June 29, that the 386-meter concrete flood wall along the river has been completed.

“Aside from the need to preserve the beauty of this river, this project aims to protect lives, properties, and crops during the rainy season,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said.

The Lamut River was recognized as the cleanest river by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in 2019.

“With the completion of infrastructure projects in Ifugao, we are hoping to support agricultural production and further boost the economy of this developing province,” Villar added.

The Lamut River Flood Control project was implemented via a P26.8-million fund allocation under the 2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
