4.6-magnitude quake hits off the coast of Negros Occidental

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded a magnitude 4.6 earthquake off the coast Negros Occidental on Tuesday afternoon, June 29.
Phivolcs said the earthquake, which occurred at around 4:56 p.m., has originated 46 kilometers southwest of Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental.
It was shallow at a depth of 24 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt at Intensity III as a "weak" shaking in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental and Bayawan City and Santa Catalina in Negros Oriental.
Phivolcs instruments also recorded the quake at Intensity III in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental and Intensity I in Sibulan, Negros Oriental and Bago City, Negros Occidental.
The quake was tectonic in origin, which means the tremor was caused by the movement of an active fault in the area.
Phivolcs does not expect damage to property or aftershocks due to this earthquake.
