San Juan City vaccinates 75% of its target population against COVID-19

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora announced on Monday, June 28, that the city is now very close to achieving herd immunity against COVID-19 after the city has vaccinated over 60,000 of its target population against the coronavirus disease.

"As of June 25, we have been able to vaccinate 75 percent of our target population or 63,950 out of 85,400 with at least one dose here in San Juan. We are targeting to reach 100 percent by middle of July. We are targeting to vaccinate 100 percent of the target population with 2 doses by the end of August," Zamora said in a statement.

National Task Force Against COVID-19 Deputy Chief Implementer Vince Dizon has lauded the San Juan city government for its vaccination efforts and efficient rollout of the vaccines and said that the city may be the very first city in the country to achieve herd immunity.

Zamora said the city government will open another vaccination site to further boost its vaccination program.

"We will be opening a 3rd vaccination site soon at the V-Mall, Greenhills Shopping Center. This will allow us to increase our daily vaccination capacity to around 4,000 up to 5,000 a day," the mayor said.

The local government unit opened its second vaccination hub at the Theater Mall Cinemas 1 and 2 of Greenhills Shopping Center Last June 1 as it started the inoculation of the A4 (economic frontliners) priority group.
