New modular hospital opens to beef up Las Pinas City's COVID-19 treatment capacity

A newly-built 36-bed modular hospital Las Piñas City opened on Monday, June 28 to augment the local government’s capacity in treating patients infected with the 2019 novel coronavirus disease.

Deputy Speaker and Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar led the inauguration of the pop-up hospital which will serve as an extension of the Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center (LPGHSTC).

Villar said the facility allows for an efficient solution for patient accommodation.

"The off-site temporary medical infrastructure will surely help our city's COVID-19 program and allow our hospitals to treat severe COVID patients and patients with other illnesses. It will also address increased occupancy rates in our local hospitals," the Lower House official said.

She added this will provide a "buffer" for another surge of COVID cases, especially with the threat of new variants.

The modular hospital, located on St. Anthony St., Perpetual Village in Barangay Pulanglupa I. It is equipped with ventilation system, oxygen lines and air conditioning units, as well as other medical equipment vital in treatment of COVID-19 patients.

Aside from the lone district representative, Senator Cynthia Villar, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, Health Undersecretary Leopoldo Vega, LPGHSTC director Rodrigo Hao, assistant regional director Ma. Paz Corrales of the Health department, district engineer Elpidio Trinidad of the Las Piñas-Muntinlupa District Engineering Office and St. Joseph Parish Priest Msgr. Bobby Olaguer graced the inauguration.

The project was initiated by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) just last April as part of efforts to decongest state-run hospitals nationwide.

“We extend our gratitude to the DPWH for the timely delivery of the much-needed healthcare facilities," added Villar.

The DPWH also previously opened isolation facilities in Las Piñas.
