ITCZ, 'habagat' to affect PH weather -- PAGASA

The southwest monsoon or "habagat" may continue to affect extreme northern Luzon, while the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) may prevail over Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, June 28.

The ITCZ, or the region where trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Palawan in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides as rains may become moderate to at times heavy.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Weather specialist Meno Mendoza said PAGASA is not expecting a low pressure area or tropical cyclone that may affect the country in the next two to three days.

Moreover, no gale warning is in place as slight to moderate conditions may prevail over the seas across the country.

While no gale warning is in effect, PAGASA still advised seafarers and fisherfolk to remain alert during offshore thunderstorms as sea conditions may become rough.
