PCG to build VHF radio repeater to enhance communication channels in Tawi-Tawi

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is set to build a Very High Frequency (VHF) radio repeater to enhance communication channels in the coastal communities of Mapun, Tawi-Tawi.

Personnel of the PCG Communications, Electronics and Information Systems Command have already inspected the 506 square meter land area located in Barangay Tabulian, which will be utilized for the VHF radio repeater. It will strengthen the communication channels in the far-flung coastal communities in Tawi-Tawi, including the Taganak Island.

According to the PCG, Barangay Kagawad Rahim Suhara Baiddin of Barangay Sapa, Mapun, Tawi-Tawi donated the lot in support of the initiative.

“The PCG's vision to intensify maritime law enforcement, maritime security, maritime safety, maritime search and rescue, and marine environmental protection in the Southernmost part of the Philippines,” it added.

On Monday, June 21, the PCG started its third phase of their maritime drills, which zero in on anti-piracy and anti-terrorism in Mindanao to strengthen the maritime law enforcement within the region.
