K-pop boy band Infinite’s Kim Sung-gyu tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Sunday, more than two weeks after getting inoculated with Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose Janssen vaccine.

His agency, Double H TNE, announced his condition, saying, “On the morning of June 27, our artist Kim Sung-gyu was notified that he tested positive for COVID-19.”

“Kim Sung-gyu was regularly being tested for COVID-19 every week to prepare for the musical 'Gwanghwamun Sonata.’ He also received the Janssen vaccine on June 10, but tested positive for coronavirus today,” it added.

The agency explained that he “is asymptomatic and has no abnormalities in his condition. We have completed the necessary measures such as testing related staff and employees who crossed paths or had contact with him.”

As such, Sung-gyu will suspend all his activities and follow the guidelines of quarantine authorities. Staff and close contacts will undergo self-quarantine regardless of the test results.

The “Gwanghwamun Sonata” musical will open on July 16 at the Seoul Arts Center, Opera Theater and Sung-gyu was cast to play the role of Wonha starting July 17.

Last June 23, Woollim Entertainment, Sung-gyu’s former agency, announced that Seo Ji Soo, a member of K-pop girl group Lovelyz, tested positive for COVID-19 on June 22.

"On the afternoon of June 21, we received notice that a nearby person was confirmed to have been diagnosed with COVID-19, so we conducted a preemptive test, and on the morning of June 22, we confirmed it,” it said.

The agency said other Lovelyz members and staff, who are classified as close contacts, got tested on June 22 and went into self-quarantine.

Other members of Lovelyz tested negative but were required to undergo self-quarantine as they were classified as close contacts.
